Insecurity

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

We are facing an epidemic of insecurity. 9/11 taught us our skies are not secure. The economy has taught us our money is not secure. Crime has come to middle America and taught us we are not safe in our homes and cars. Televisions reminds us we are not thin enough or pretty enough or strong enough or young enough. We go to church only to learn that we are not good enough or holy enough. Is there any wonder that we are insecure?

Insecurity is uncertainty or anxiety about who we are. Who are you? I used to be a poor kid. I remember growing up feeling very insecure. Our family was poor. My father was sometimes unemployed and almost always underemployed. I was the oldest of nine kids. That’s who I was and it wasn’t very secure. When you have a childhood like that, you can spend your life trying to ensure security. It’s impossible. Look around you; security can not be obtained on our own. No amount of money, fame, power or position will ensure security.

Security can be found in only one place: in Christ. In Christ, who we are is a child of God. There is no other state more secure in this world or in the hereafter. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17. Once we are “in Christ” it’s no longer about us. It’s about Him.It’s no longer an issue of whether we are rich enough or pretty enough or strong enough or good enough. It’s all about Him.

“All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.  38“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.  39 “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.  40“For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the last day,” (John 6:37-40).

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand,” (John 10:27-28).

Here is the truth in which you can be secure. You are not pretty enough, thin enough, good enough, rich enough, strong enough or worthy enough. He is. In Him is a safe and secure place. In Him you can be everything He intended you to be, through His goodness and His power.

Satan wants you to worry and be anxious. In that state, you are unable to grow and to share. You will never be able to be His hands and feet. In His arms, let fear and anxiety flee. Let confidence and holiness grow. Let purpose and joy flow.
