Demonic Disunity

This is a very divided world. In Washington, votes seem to be 51-49 most of the time. There is talk about “breaking ties.”

The divide is wide. Folks on either side can’t seem to understand or even hear what’s being said across the chasm. There has almost always been more than one side to anything, but, it seems to me, the divide has never been so deep. It’s not as if we believe we are choosing between reasonable alternatives. For each side, it seems it’s the difference between good and evil. They just can’t agree on which is which. My side is 100% right and the other is 100% wrong.

Those in urban areas differed from the country folks. Half of us love the President and half hate him. Half get their news from Fox and the rest from the “mainstream media, which isn’t really “mainstream” but more like midstream. Half believe Fox isn’t “real news” and the rest believe the MSM is mostly “fake news.”

Who’s to blame? Each side points to the other. Here’s my take: It’s not flesh and blood; it’s Satan. Before half of you call me “fundamentalist fanatic” while the other half shouts “Amen.” At least give me a listen.

It’s all about the difference between “the world” and “the church”, at least what the church is supposed to be. The church is meant to be a model of unity to a world of disunity. Jesus, speaking of His followers, said, “I am not asking on behalf of them alone, but also on behalf of those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are Me, and I in You, they also in Us; so that the world may believe that You sent Me. I have given them the glory You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one—” John 17.

Unity, oneness, isn’t natural. It’s super-natural. It’s possible only for those who are united, that is one, with the Father. Satan has been busy, fomenting disunity. The disunity that seems to overwhelm us isn’t natural. It’s supernatural and not in a good way. It’s demonic.

What should we do?

Pray. If Jesus felt it was necessary to pray for unity, how can we do any less? We need to pray for those from whom we have been divided. We need to pray for our own attitudes. We need to pray against the evil one.

Perspective. The government isn’t the answer. We devote way too much energy to the political divides. Neither side has the answer. There I did it. I managed to alienate everyone. Sorry, but it’s true. Neither political side has a monopoly on truth. In fact, most of the time neither side has a scintilla of truth. (I love it when I get to use “scintilla.”)

Polite. Being nice under any circumstance shouldn’t be out of style.

Power. There is a source of power available to us. It’s not in Washington. It’s called the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. It’s to whom we should look for unity.

Let’s not let Satan keep winning. For now, it seems he is. Let’s mind our “Ps.”
