Do Your Job

And early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came unto Him; and He sat down and taught them.

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto Him a woman taken in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,

they said unto Him, “Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

Now Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned but what sayest thou?”

This they said testing Him, that they might have cause to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground, as though He heard them not.

So when they continued asking Him, He lifted Himself up and said unto them, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

And they who heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the eldest even unto the last, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted Himself up and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, “Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?”

11 She said, “No man, Lord.” And Jesus said unto her, “Neither do I condemn thee; go, and sin no more.”

12 Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, “I am the Light of the world. He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8

We would all be so much  better off if we would just do our jobs. We aren’t qualified to do the jobs of others. We are particularly unqualified to do God’s job. Billy Graham is probably thought of as the greatest soul winner of our generation. He has counseled with every President since beginning his ministry. He is usually listed high on the annual list of most respected men. People that have never heard him preach assume he spouts fire and brimstone. He doesn’t. He speaks to stadiums full of people who are ready to hear the gospel. That’s what he gives them. His crusades often lasted for weeks. At the beginning they were attended by mostly the saved. The first nights a few more were saved. They went out and their changed lives brought in others. He always coördinates with churches who can disciple and love those who come to Christ during the crusades.

The Pharisees and way too many Christians think they can do the job of God, The Father and the Holy Spirit. They love to “convict and condemn” instead of just loving. They divide the world into two categories, the righteous and the unrighteous. Guess which group they claim?  With the woman caught in adultery Jesus showed that, without Him, there are two categories: the repentant and the unrepentant. All are unrighteous. If the repentant will come to Him, they can become forgiven and yes, righteous in the only eyes that count, God’s.

Tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Amana we will hear a glorious testimony that will remind us all just what our job is. Come and join us. As Christians we are qualified for just one thing. Let’s love.
