What Do I Do Now?

My daily routine is pretty simple. I get up. Have a cup of coffee. Go for a swim. Eat breakfast at one of a number of breakfast eateries. Then I go into the office for a couple of hours. My swim place and breakfast places are shut down. Take out breakfast isn’t the same.

Even my office is encouraging work from home. I am realizing that I am going to have to make some life changes. I’ve given this some thought and here are my plans.

Take more day trips. I know this sounds contrary to the social distancing thing, but consider: This isn’t New York or San Francisco. We can leave our homes without making social contact. My plan is to select a drive-through I either haven’t been to in a while or have never patronized. Leave the house, tank up at a self-service gas station, enjoy a ride in the country, pick up drive-through lunch and head home. I know me. I am not going to be able to sit in my house for weeks. So that’s plan one.

There are some other possibilities:

Plant a garden.  I have done a bit of gardening in the past. It’s springtime. Gardening is a healthy, non-social contact enterprise. Why not give it a shot.

Finish a project. I have lots of incomplete and never started projects around the house. As long as they don’t close Lowe’s or Home Depot, it seems a good time to tackle a couple of those.

Take a course. There are lots of things I would like to know more about. There are on-line Great Courses. For less than $10 a month, you can take as many courses and attend, online, as many lectures as you like.

Read a book. I don’t mean watch a movie based on a book or listen to a book. I mean read an actual book. It’s an almost lost pleasure.

Learn to cook something new. You can get almost any ingredient you need delivered. You can discover a mountain of recipes online. You have time on your hands and you have to eat something.

Binge-watch. Aren’t there lots of TV series that have been recommended to you that you thought you needed to check out sometime? It’s sometime.

Call a friend. Aren’t there friends and family members you have lost touch with? Pick up the phone.

If you have other ideas, please let me know. Don’t let this fear of virus beat you. Let it produce a better you. As for me, I think I need a nap. Blogging is hard work. Oh, you could: Start a Blog.
