Where’s my bed

We’ve needed a new bed for quite a while. My wife has hinted for years. The spots where we sleep are molded to the forms of our bodies. Okay maybe that last one is an exaggeration but we need a new bed. A couple of weeks ago; we selected the bed and delivery was scheduled for January 15. We were told; it will probably come before then. On the 14th I was told the bed would be delivered between 3 and 6 p.m. At the assigned time, we stripped the old bed cleared a path for the delivery men from front door to bedroom and waited. The bed never showed up. Because of the long weekend, the salesman has not been able to find the warehouseman to tell us why we don’t have a bed. It is now 5 days late and there is talk of canceling the order. We waited years before making the move to get the bed, but this five day delay is intolerable.
That’s how it was for Abraham. God promised he and his wife children. The promise was delayed. Sarai couldn’t wait and well the rest is Ishmael, Arabs and centuries of conflict. Check it out in Genesis 16.  Maybe I’ll wait a few more days for the bed.
The point is that we are an impatient people. This is true when God reveals a destination or a promise. Like children in the back seat of the car, “Are we there yet?” Unlike the children who are more or less trapped with our driving; we believe we need to grab the steering wheel from God and get us there.
OC says: “There is a darkness which comes from excess of light, and then is the time to listen.”
Every step of the process is God’s. The inspiration, the execution; the planting and the harvest.
It is a wonderful thing to be part of God’s plan; but it’s His plan and He has a way to achieve the goal. When we rush on ahead; we rush over the cliff.
We have to be really tuned in to Him not to miss the sound of the starter’s pistol and just as tuned in not to “jump the gun” not start before the pistols is fired.
Keep your hands off the wheel. Let Him do the driving. We’ll get there when we get there.
I think I hear the delivery guys in the driveway. No, it’s just the paperboy. I sure do need that bed.

Be blessed.

Nick
