Excuse me God, You’re in my way.

I am at the Borders at the Galleria in Houston, Texas. How and why I am here is the subject of today’s Nick’s Walk. Rosemary and I are on “vacation.”We decided to take a few days alone after a hectric Christmas season. The plan was to spend a few days in Houston after a brief stop at my brother, Michael’s place in Port Arthur. Yesterday was fine. We had a great visit with Mike and his great family We got to the hotel late and I am suffering from a cold. So drugged with Nyquil I got a great night’s sleep. I  awoke late for me, so the day was already off beam. I had planned to wake up at my usual early time and do my blog and then, of course, a full day of vacation like activity. Plan destroyed. As I open my eyes, Rosemary says “Are you going to breakfast? Can you bring me some.” Knowing she never gets up that early, 7:30. I astutely realized that she hadn’t slept all night. The day’s plans further shot. I took a shower, got dressed and went down for breakfast.

After breakfast, I packed up a buffet for Rosemary and realized I didn’t have my room key. I moved to the elevator anyway before I realized I didn’t know my room number. I took a couple of guesses but missed both times. Back to the lobby with breakfast buffet in hand I humbly admitted to the clerk that I had no room key and “no” I didn’t know what room I was in. Looking all of my 60 years probably saved me from a chat with hotel security.  Armed with a fresh key and a sticky with my room number on it, I returned to the room with Rosemary’s breakfast. She ate two bites of it and after asking, not very seriously, if I wanted her to get up, her head hit the pillow.

Knowing I would be uncomfortable tip toeing around the room for hours. I packed up my computer and headed out looking for a WiFi location to do the blog. I WILL DO THIS BLOG AND I WILL DO IT NOW.  I downloaded a “find a free wifi location” App to my iphone and discovered there was WiFi at a public library. Leaving the hotel I noticed the Borders where I now sit and said to myself, “I know they have WiFi but the public library will be better. The library is four miles away and it turns out it doesn’t open until noon on Mondays. I then checked my new app and found a different Borders a few miles away. It turns out it is going out of business and although the “Free WiFi” signs still abound, the WiFi was in fact, turned off. I then headed to my current location, an hour and a half after leaving the hotel and in walking distance to the hotel.

Yes, today’s post is late. SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT>>>>>

Admittedly I am operating pretty much in the flesh as I turned to today’s My Utmost for His Highest, knowing I will get some spiritual stuff I probably can’t handle.

WHY CANNOT I FOLLOW THEE NOW?

Peter said unto Him, Lord, why cannot I follow Thee now?  John 13:37
Turns out it’s about God’s timing. I could not understand why I couldn’t get out my blog when I wanted to. It just wasn’t time. “There are times when you cannot understand why you cannot do what you want to do. When God brings the blank space, see that you do not fill it in, but wait. The blank space may come in order to teach you what sanctification means, or it may come after sanctification to teach you what service means. Never run before God’s guidance. If there is the slightest doubt, then He is not guiding. Whenever there is doubt – don’t.”

When will I learn that when there seems resistance to what I want to do, I need to check myself. I am trying to do what I want to do again and not what He wants. Only after I am sure that I am pursuing His path should I press through resistance. Resistance isn’t always Satan. Sometime’s it’s God. I am not sure why He wanted this out for noon instead of breakfast, unless it is, of course, the lesson in His plan versus mine which I am learning today.

I am not sure what God has planned for the rest of  this first day of vacation, but I bet it will be better than what I had planned. I will tell you the clouds are gone. The sun is shining and Rosemary’s getting some much needed sleep. All is well in Houston and, I pray, back on His timetable.

Oh tomorrow’s entry… might be late 🙂

Be blessed.

Nick
